The Vice Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University M. Krishnan said the benefit of higher education will reach the masses only if it reaches the tinsel world.
After inaugurating the new academic building of American College at its satellite campus at Chathirapatti in Madurai on Thursday, he said that the benefit of higher education will reach the masses only if it reaches the tinsel world.
The vice chancellor stressed that the professional institutions should strive for excellence and should be a stimulator of innovative spirit among the students with rural back ground, especially the downtrodden, he said.
The new building was dedicated by CSI Madurai-Ramnad Diocese Bishop M. Joseph in the presence of Director of Collegiate Education Jothi Venkatesan and JD Bhaskar, Principal Davamani Christober and governing council members from the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia.
While addressing at the meeting, Christober said that the campus was started in the year 2008 and became functional in 2014. Courses in seven disciplines are being offered here and over 1,000 students’ pursuing courses. As many as 120 students’ are staying in the hostel, he added.
The new building has a two-storey structure, houses six departments, classrooms and seminar halls. The building was named after Eva M. Swift, one of the first American missionaries who worked in Madurai and Ramanathapuram for over 46 years. She also started Lucy Perry Noble Bible Training Institute and served the cause of women and girls, Christober said.
