More than 150 participants, including school students and hospital staffs, held placards and formed a 2km human chain that started from Promed Hospital, Kottivakkam and extended till Thiruvanmiyur (RTO).
The Addl CP said, “Traffic policemen work 24×7 to keep our roads safe and ensure we reach home safely to our kin every day. They should have a balanced diet and exercise to avoid heart diseases.” He also lauded Promed’s Brave Hearts initiative to conduct a free heart camp and urged the Chennai Police Personnel to take an active role in the camp and monitor heart health.
The programmes were held under Mission Unblock Chennai, a comprehensive program to increase heart health awareness among public through social media, an initiative of Dr. Arun Kalyanasundaram, Chief Cardiologist, Promed Hospital.
“World Heart Day is an opportunity for everyone to stop and consider how best to take care of their hearts. India has witnessed a spike in heart disease and heart related deaths. People can optimize their heart health by adopting a healthier lifestyle and doing age-appropriate guideline-based health checkups. It is important that people know their health status and take ownership of the same. The pillars of a healthy lifestyle include a combination of exercise, dietary changes, sleep, avoiding tobacco and alcohol, stress management along with regular checkups – this can ensure a healthy and vibrant life.” said Dr. Arun Kalyanasundaram, Chief Cardiologist, Promed Hospital.
“The human chain’s primary goal is to increase public awareness of cardiovascular disease, its prevention, and the effects it has on individuals. Heart attacks among young people have become more common in recent years. Previously thought to only affect older people, heart attacks now affect a significant number of younger persons, including those even in their 20s. This makes it crucial to educate young adults about maintaining heart health, said Dr Spoorthi Arun, Managing Director, Promed Hospital.
