To realize this vision, the government’s DDU–GKY initiative is dedicated to imparting training and ensuring employment for rural youth.”
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU–GKY) is a national initiative focused on providing employment opportunities to rural youth through skill development. The primary objective of this scheme is to offer unique opportunities for skill enhancement to rural youth belonging to economically weaker sections in the age group of 18 to 35 years.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries are assured a minimum monthly salary of ₹10,000, free uniforms, study materials and bags, travel allowance for non-residential training, and free lodging and boarding facilities for residential training.
The scheme also gives special priority to Scheduled Castes (6.58%), Scheduled Tribes (23.12%), Minority Communities (6.64%), Women (33%), and Persons with Disabilities (5%). Training is provided in over 40 technical and non-technical sectors, certified by the Sector Skill Council (SSC).
Renowned motivational speaker Sanjay Rawal was also present on the occasion. Addressing the youth, he said: “In today’s world, your real asset is your skill. It is through your skills that you can become self-reliant and contribute to the development of the nation.”
Beneficiaries speak
During the job fair, former trainees shared their success stories.
One beneficiary said: “The job I received today has fulfilled my family’s dream. Now I too can contribute to the household income.”
A differently-abled young woman expressed emotionally: “Before joining this program, people used to call me helpless, saying who would ever give me a job due to my disability. But through DDU–GKY training, I not only got a job, but also the opportunity to prove myself. Today, I stand with dignity and financial independence.”
So far, more than 30,000 youth have been provided with skill development training, out of which over 23,000 have successfully secured employment.
Thus, by empowering youth through skills, training, and employment, the Government of Gujarat is making a significant contribution towards the development of villages and rural areas.
DDU–GKY is not only providing employment to rural youth, but also instilling confidence, new hope, and new direction in their lives.
