Puducherry posted 102 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the infection count to 34,583 in the union territory. Two more people, including a 55-year old woman, died of the illness during the last 24 hours raising the toll to 590.
Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that the two deceased had complaints of diabetes and hypertension. He said the fresh cases were identified at the end of examination of 3,792 samples. While 75 of the new cases were from Puducherry, eight each from Karaikal and Yanam and the remaining 11 cases were from Mahe. The official said 154 patients were discharged after treatment during last twenty four hours.
The fatality and recovery rates were 1.71 percent and 87.64 percent respectively in the union territory. The Department of Health so far tested 2.97 lakh samples and it was found that 2.59 lakh out of them were negative. Result of examination of remaining samples was awaited. Of the total 34,583 COVID-19 patients 3,686 were active, 30,307 recovered and discharged.
