Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has called upon the Tamilspora, especially the youth, in the US to keep pace with the developments in India. At a function organized by the Bharathi Tamil Sangam (BATS) of San Francisco Bay Area to celebrate the 76th Independence of India, she said the diaspora should recall the sacrifices leaders and freedom fighters had made to get freedom.

Enthused with the success of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ aimed at nurturing and promoting patriotism will run for one more year. Complimenting the diaspora for celebrating Azad Ka Amrit Mahotsav, organized virtually on Sunday, she appreciated the patriotic fervor of the citizens. Expressing happiness over participating in the function she said we are not only internet connected but inter connected.

In her speech, Dr Tamilisai also highlighted two historic achievements of India – free vaccination of over 208,25,13,831 doses covering nearly 70% of the population & the Tribal leader as our President.
Recalling Dr Ambedkar’s quote, that we should learn our past history so that we can create a new one, she asked the diaspora youth to learn more about our freedom fighters and our rich history. Despite her busy schedule on August 15 after attending flag hoisting functions in two states, Telangana and Pondicherry, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor and Lt Governor, respectively, addressed the Tamilspora in San Francisco Bay Area in the morning.
Elsewhere, all over the US India’s Independence Day was being observed over the week. On Saturday, AIA (American Indian Association) organized Swades with Kamal Hasan, actor and producer, as the chief guest. FOG is organizing a two-day event in Fremont next week end. The Indian Ambassador, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, will be participating in it. A flag raising ceremony is being held at the San Jose City hall on August 18
Syamala Raghuraman, president of the Bharathi Tamil Sangam, introduced the Governor. Earlier, the California State Assembly Member, Alex Lee, presented a commendation to the sangam. The local youth presented cultural programs, including a Thirukkural rendering through song . T S Rajan, founder, invited the governor to be in person for a future event. The sangam thanked NE for governor’s participation.
