Puducherry Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday made a fervent appeal to the people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as the virus has “not totally disappeared.”
“I appeal to people to get vaccinated against COVID- 19. It has not totally disappeared. We should lead a peaceful and healthy life,” she said after kickstarting a series of activities in the run-up to the 75th Independence Day celebrations.
In Bay of Bengal near the coastline, 75 boats in a rally signified the start of #AzadiKaAmruthMahostav.

She appreciated the participation of freedom fighters, students and musicians in the activities to celebrate the anniversary of the Dandi march.
The Lt Governor planted saplings on the promenade on beach road to mark the launch of a drive to plant 75,000 saplings across the union territory as part of the AzadiKa Amruth Mahostav celebrations.

“Inaugurated a plantation drive for 75,000 saplings to be planted as part of #AzadiKaAmruthMahostav These saplings will remind us of several unsung heroes of the freedom struggle,” she tweeted.

She honoured a 91-year old freedom fighter in Reddiarpalayam.
Tamilisai Soundararajan had on Thursday night offered prayers at various shrines in and around Puducherry on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
