Puducherry on Monday reported 189 new COVID-19 cases taking the overall count in the union territory to 31,737 while two people succumbed to the virus, Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said.
The two deaths, both from the Puducherry region of the union territory, took the toll to 565, the Minister told a virtual press meet.
The 189 fresh cases were identified during the last 24 hours at the end of the examination of 2,579 samples, he said.
As many as 264 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours ending 10 am today, he added.
Rao said the two patients who died Monday had Covid pneumonia.
He said the fatality rate was 1.78 per cent and the recovery rate was 83.67 per cent.
The Health Minister said with the addition of 189 new cases the overall tally rose to 31,737 (after transfer of one case to Tamil Nadu).
He said 4,617 out of them were active, 26,555 patients had recovered and were discharged so far while the fatalities were 565.
He said that 2.39 lakh samples had been tested so far and it was found that 2.03 lakh samples were negative.
