The Municipalities in the Union Territory of Puducherry would impose a fine of Rs 100 on those venturing out of their homes during the current lockdown without any valid reason or identity cards, warns the Lt Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.
The government amended the Pondicherry Municipalities (Prevention of infection and control of corona virus disease) Rules 2021 to impose the fine which comes into immediate effect, a late night press release said on Saturday.
The Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan had approved of the amendment as it was necessary to break the chain of the killer virus.
Meanwhile, the sources said that the wholesale and retail vegetable sellers in the crowded Goubert Market called as Big Markets in Puducherry will be shifted to Bus stand as well as Thattanchavady market committee ground to enable the public to maintain social distancing from Monday (May 17, 2021).
Likewise, the wholesale and retail fruit shops would also be shifted to Jawaharlal Nehru street, however other grocery store/businesses would continue function there as usual, the sources added.
