Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has reviewed the re-development project being undertaken at the Rajahmundry Railway Station, says a release from the South Central Railway (SCR) Zone.
The South Central Railway (SCR) zone, under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has announced a comprehensive redevelopment plan for Rajahmundry Railway Station. The station, currently handling 86 halting, 3 originating, and 3 terminating trains daily, will be upgraded to meet the growing demands of the region.
The redevelopment plan, estimated to cost Rs. 250 crore, includes:
- Iconic station building with Facilities to cater need of another 50 Years
- Spacious Concourse/Roof Plaza connecting terminal building, Platforms having all essential facilities i.e. Food Court, retails, ATM, One Station One Product, Kids Play Zone, Pharmacy, internet, wash rooms etc.
- Integration of both sides of city (Station building on both sides of the tracks)
- Divyangjan and old citizen friendly facilities.
- Sufficient circulating area & adequate provision for drop off, pick up & parking.
- Green Building, Energy Saving, Solar panels, Fire fighting, Rainwater harvesting, Waste water/Storm water reuse and Solid waste management on site.
- Provision of space for Commercial Development.
- Upgradation of platforms, tracks, and signaling systems
- Enhancement of passenger amenities, including air-conditioned waiting lounges, escalators, and elevators
- Green buildings and energy-efficient systems
- Enhanced security features and surveillance systems
The redeveloped station will be designed to cater to the projected footfall of 9,533 per hour and 95,328 per day by 2071-72, making it a world-class transportation hub.
Rajahmundry, a major regional transportation hub and business center, will benefit significantly from this redevelopment. The city’s textile, paper, and tobacco industries, as well as its tourism and cultural attractions, will gain increased connectivity and infrastructure support.
The project is part of the SCR zone’s efforts to modernize and upgrade its infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of the region, the release added.
