FMCG major Adani Wilmar, which sells a whole range of edible oils and food products under the brand name Fortune, and Ramol police have seized a large number of duplicate sunflower oil tins from five shops in Vastral area of Ahmedabad, officials said.
Based on specific information about duplicate sunflower oil tins being passed off as Fortune oil, a team of Adani Wilmar conducted raids at several shops in Utsav City locality of Vastral on Friday, along with a team of Ramol police led by Police Inspector KS Dave under Zone-V DCP Achal Tyagi.
“A total of 190 sunflower tins, which were falsely labelled as Fortune Sunflower Oil, were seized from the five shops in Vastral. The value of the seized goods is Rs. 3.78 lakh,” said a spokesperson of Adani Wilmar.
Several mismatches, including the labelling’s colour, hologram, fonts, address of manufacturing plants, and information related to minimum nutrition value, were found in the seized tins when compared with the original Fortune tins.
The duplicate oil tins were seized from Balaji General Store, Balaji Traders, Rahul Provision Store, Gayatri Provision Store, and Mamta Traders all of them belonging to Utsav City locality in Vastral area.
Ramol police have filed FIRs against the shop owners under IPC 482, 483, and 486, and sections 51 and 63 of the Copyright Act against Ramesh Solanki, the owner of Balaji General Store, Rahul Bachani, owner of Rahul Provision Store, Badal Maheshwari of Balaji Traders, Anil Patel of Gayatri Provision Store, and Sandip Jain of Mamta Traders.
The police are investigating the source of the counterfeit tins, and the fake labelling.
