The Indian Navy on Wednesday announced Rear Admiral Ravi Kumar Dhingra assumed charge as the Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Naval Area (FOTNA) on Tuesday.
He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Pune. He was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1992 and joined the Submarine Arm in 1994.
The Officer is a specialist in Navigation & Direction and has served on a large number of operational naval ships and submarines in varying capacities. These include Navigating Officer of INS Vagir (Foxtrot Class submarine) and INS Sindhushastra (Kilo Class submarine), Executive Officer (Second-in-Command) of INS Sindhuraj (Kilo Class submarine) and Commanding Officer of INS Vagli (Foxtrot Class submarine), INS Sindhughosh (Kilo Class submarine), INS Gomati (Guided Missile Frigate).
The Officer’s staff appointments include key tenures as Staff Officer (Operations) and Commander Submarines at INS Vajrabahu as well as the dual-hatted appointment of Commodore Commanding Submarines (West) and Commanding Officer INS Vajrabahu. He has also tenanted the appointment of Principal Director in the Directorate of Submarine Operations at Naval Headquarters.
The Officer is a Post Graduate in Defence Studies from the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and has an MPhil in Strategic Studies from Mumbai University.
The Officer was awarded Commendation by the Chief of Naval Staff in 2004 and Distinguished Service Medal (Vishisht Seva Medal) in 2019.
