AHMEDABAD, OCT 17

In a world dominated by instant messages and fleeting digital interactions, the Department of Posts has taken a heartwarming step to revive the timeless art of letter writing. It has announced the ‘Dhai Akhar’ National Letter Writing Competition 2025 on the theme “A Letter to My Role Model.” The initiative seeks to rekindle the personal, emotional, and creative essence of handwritten communication — something that continues to hold a unique place in human connection.

Announcing the competition, Postmaster General (North Gujarat Region) Krishna Kumar Yadav said, “In this fast-paced digital age, the warmth of a handwritten letter remains irreplaceable. A letter is not just ink on paper—it’s an emotion, a reflection of thought, and a bridge between hearts.”

He added that the ‘Dhai Akhar’ competition aims to encourage creativity, originality, and self-expression among youth while reintroducing them to the charm of India’s postal heritage.

“This initiative is not only about writing—it’s about rediscovering the joy of slowing down, reflecting, and expressing one’s thoughts with sincerity and depth,” he said.

Competition Details

The competition is open to all age groups, with two categories—up to 18 years and above 18 years. Participants must write a letter on the theme “A Letter to My Role Model” addressed to the Chief Postmaster General of their respective circle. Letters must be handwritten in English, Hindi, or any regional language, using inland letters or envelopes issued by the Department of Posts.

Entries should not exceed 500 words (up to 18 years) or 1,000 words (above 18 years) and must include the participant’s full name, address, date of birth, mobile number, and school/college name. The last date for submission is December 8, 2025.

Awards and Recognition

Winners will be selected at both state and national levels, with prizes ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000. A total of ₹40.20 lakh in prize money will be distributed nationwide to encourage participation and excellence in writing.

Yadav, who is also the author of “India Post: 150 Glorious Years,” emphasised that ‘Dhai Akhar’ is more than a competition—it’s a celebration of words and emotions.

“Letters have a soul that emails and messages cannot capture. Through ‘Dhai Akhar’, we aim to connect hearts across generations and inspire people to express what truly matters—thoughtfully, beautifully, and by hand,” he concluded.

For more details, participants can contact the Superintendents of their respective Postal Divisions or visit the Head Post Offices in their area.
