GANDHINAGAR, JUNE 7

The Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), a premier institution dedicated to provide best public and private strategic security and police services to the nation and the world peace, prosperity and stability, has on Friday signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brane Services Pvt Ltd to establish a state-of-the-art Drone Robotics Centre (DRC) on its campus. This collaborative initiative marks a significant milestone in advancing drone technology and research in India.

Professor (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice- Chancellor, RRU; Joe J Kennet and Sayee Prasad, Senior Vice-Presidents of Brane Services; Professor (Dr.) Kalpesh Wandra, Pro Vice-Chancellor of RRU and other university officials were present at the event. The event highlighted the mutual commitment of both institutions to excel innovation, strategic security, and national development.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of RRU, emphasized the importance of holistic security and strategic education for national peace, prosperity, and stability. He underscored RRU’s vision of fostering an innovative research culture and disseminating research outputs to key stakeholders.

One of the key drivers behind this collaboration is the Rooster Drone technology, initially inspired by former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s visit to RRU in April 2022. Since then, RRU and Brane Services have worked diligently to develop and refine this cutting-edge drone technology. The first prototype, handed over to the Indian Army’s Northern Command in November 2023, underwent extensive trials, leading to significant improvements and advancements.

The DRC will focus on three primary pillars of research and development, each crucial for addressing contemporary security challenges:

  1. Rooster Drone Technology: Advanced autonomous drones equipped with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for complex tasks, including inspections, surveillance, and mapping. These drones represent a significant advancement in autonomous systems, designed to operate in diverse environments and deliver actionable insights to security forces.
  2. Drone Forensics: Specialized techniques for investigating and analyzing drone-related incidents, crucial for law enforcement, counter-terrorism, and regulatory compliance. Forensic experts will employ advanced methodologies to retrieve and analyze data from drones, providing crucial evidence for resolving incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles.
  3. Counter-Drone Technologies: Systems designed to detect, identify, and neutralize unauthorized or malicious drone activities, ensuring airspace security and preventing the misuse of drone technology. With the proliferation of drones, there is an increasing need to protect sensitive areas from potential threats, and these technologies will play a crucial role in maintaining security and safeguarding privacy.

The establishment of the DRC will enhance RRU’s capacity to train and upskill in-service personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Central Police Organizations (CPOs), and State Police forces. Additionally, the centre will serve as a hub for workshops and seminars for senior leadership in security institutions, fostering greater engagement and collaboration.

The advanced facility will also offer students of RRU opportunities for internships in drone technologies, further integrating academic learning with practical, hands-on experience. Moreover, the DRC will support Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects for local communities, contributing to social and economic development.

The Vice Chancellor expressed his optimism about the project’s success and anticipated the formal inauguration of the DRC by August 2024. He highlighted the project’s alignment with the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India campaigns, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance and indigenous innovation.
