Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr L Murugan said that a cargo terminal will be set up at a cost of Rs 75000 crore in Campbellbay in the Great Nicobar Islands.

Informing that a detailed project report is being prepared for the cargo terminal project, the Minister said that a modern fish landing centre will be set up at Mayabunder in the Northern part of the Middle Andaman.

- Under the Prathan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana Scheme, 60 percent subsidy for women and 40 percent subsidy for men would be provided to buy boats required for deep-sea fishing and they would avail bank loans for the remaining sum of money
- The Union Government has allocated funds to buy 7 deep-sea fishing boats in the Andaman Islands
The Union Minister interacted with the fisherfolks in Danapur village ton Sunday where the people made various demands viz, improvisation of the cold storage facility, construction of new fish landing centre, employment opportunities for the educated youths, construction of new rearing ponds.
Responding to the fisherfolks demands, Dr L Murugan said that a modern fish landing centre will be set up in Mayabunder. He also listed out the various welfare schemes being implemented by the Union Government for the welfare of fishermen. Further he instructed the department officials concerned to conduct awareness camps immediately to be acquainted with about these schemes. Under the Prathan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana Scheme, 60 percent subsidy for women and 40 percent subsidy for men would be provided to buy boats required for deep-sea fishing and they would avail bank loans for the remaining sum of money.
The Union Government has allocated funds to buy 7 deep-sea fishing boats in the Andaman Islands, he said. Dr L Murugan then sat along with the fishermen to listen to the voice of the Prime Minister-‘Mann Ki Baat live programme.

Earlier, on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of late former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Union Minister Dr L Murugan paid floral tributes to the portrait.
