Gujarat Chief Minister has appointed eight senior secretaries to contain the spread of coronavirus as more than 200 fresh cases of coronavirus were detected on Monday, taking the tally to 1,939, while the death toll rose to 71 after eight more patients succumbed to the infection, a senior government official said.

According to Ashwani Kumar, secretary to the CM, eight senior secretaries were appointed by the CM during the meeting to oversee the entire management for curbing COVID-19 in Gujarat. These officers will suggest insights to the regional officers and district administrators across Gujarat in their fight against COVID-19.
Out of the 201 new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Ahmedabad alone accounted for 152, followed by Surat at 27 and Vadodara at eight, the official said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 1,248, of which 1,173 are from the city, the official said.
A majority of the cases in Ahmedabad city has come from zones designated as COVID-19 hotspots, Principal Secretary (Health), Jayanti Ravi said.
Among other districts that reported new cases were Aravalli (6), Kutch (2), Mahisagar (1), Panchmahal (2) and Rajkot (2).
He is Hareshbhai Jivanbhai Barot, village Changod, block Vijapur, district Mehsana. He says, “ in Corona pandemic time I have got Rs. 2000 under Pradhanmantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi, which has been very helpful to me. For this I am thanking Prime Minister.”

Out of the eight deaths reported on Monday, Ahmedabad accounted for six, taking the toll in the district to 38.
Two deaths were reported from Surat.
All but two of these patients suffered from co-morbid conditions like hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and kidney disease, among others, Ravi said.
Among other districts with a high number of cases, Surat has so far reported 269 infections and Vadodara 188.

The state also reported a significant jump in the number of recovered patients with 26 more discharged on Monday, taking the count of cured cases to 131, she said.
Of the discharged patients, 20 were from Ahmedabad, three from Rajkot, and one each from Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, and Gandhinagar, she said.

Out of 1,637 active COVID-19 patients, 19 are on ventilators, while the condition of others is stable.
Sharing profile of 67 COVID-19 patients who have died in the state, Ravi said 90 percent of them either had either risk factors or suffered from co-morbidities or both.
In the last 24 hours, 4,212 samples were tested for coronavirus, Ravi said, adding so far, a total 33,316 samples have been tested in the state.

District-wise, Ahmedabad has reported the highest, 1,248, cases, followed by Vadodara 188, Surat 269, Rajkot 38, Bhavnagar 32, Anand 28, Bharuch 23, Gandhinagar 17, Patan 15, Panchmahal 11, Narmada 12, Banaskantha 10, Chhota Udepur and Aravalli seven each, Kutch and Mehana six each, Botad five, Porbandar, Mahisagar and Dahod three each, Gir Somnath, Kheda and Sabarkantha two each, and Jamnagar and Morbi one each.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani held a meeting in the presence of Chief Principal Secretary to CM K.Kailashnathan and Chief Secretary Anil Mukim to chart out a plan to curb COVID-19 in the days to come.

Kumar also said that 4,000 industrial units outside the limits of municipalities and municipal corporations have become operational in the state. These include 700 units in Ahmedabad, 600 in Rajkot, 150 in Surat, 750 in Kutch, 200 in Vadodara, 400 in Morbi, 450 in Bharuch and the remaining in other parts of the state.

Further, a sum of Rs.6.5 lakh has been deposited in the bank accounts of NFSA cardholders in Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Sabarkantha, and Panchmahal through DBT. This amount is deposited as a part of the CM’s decision to deposit Rs.1000 per family to 66 lakh NFSA cardholders in Gujarat for April 2020.
Providing details of essential items available in the state, Kumar said, “46.60 lakh litres of milk has been distributed. 95,172 quintals of vegetables and 10,148 quintals of fruits are available in Gujarat.”
DGP extends curfew in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot till April 24
The curfew which has been in place in parts of Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot in Gujarat to curb the spread of coronavirus has been extended till April 24, state DGP Shivanand Jha said on Monday.
The curfew was supposed to end on April 21.

“During the period of the ongoing curfew, many cases are detected in the areas placed under total restriction in three cities, so it was decided in a high-level meeting held today by the chief minister to extend the curfew further,” Jha told reporters.
The curfew was imposed on different dates.
Gujarat notifies partial relaxation plan: DGP Jha
Director-General of Police Shivanand Jha said that graded partial relaxations of lockdown are allowed in Gujarat in the non-hotspot areas. However, people must wear masks and keep social distance between each other. No such relaxation has been allowed in the curfew areas of Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot.

State police will ensure that the people follow instructions in curfew declared areas and the partially relaxed areas. It is the responsibility of the police to see that people can easily move by complying with the required conditions in areas where the exemption is granted.
In Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot, 142, 104 and 52 people have been arrested, registering 125, 95 and 45 crimes, respectively. In all three cities, crimes have been registered through drone surveillance and CCTV in the past 24 hours. In the residential area, 208 people are arrested registering 110 crimes through CCTV in different societies.

To provide the necessary guidance to the police in the lockdown, the instructions have been issued by the department that the high police officers should go above all possible points and alert the police personnel. Apart from this, provision has been made to provide Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE) kits as per the instructions of the Chief Minister in view of the danger of transit to frontline police personnel.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude to the police personnel who have been on duty for 12-12 hours even in this difficult situation, DGP said that “I am very happy that not a single policeman has even thought of retreating from the force in this adverse situation.” I urge all police personnel, that with this passion all will continue to work till 3rd May.
Jha added that inter-state and inter-district movement is restricted. In the meantime, three persons on a motorcycle traveling from Bengaluru to Rajasthan were arrested by the Amirgarh check post at Banaskantha. These persons have reached here through inner areas of villages rather than highways. Now, the police will also monitor such interior areas and roads of villages.
Two more people have been arrested of Tablighi Jamaat, Gandhinagar police have also arrested one more person and kept in quarantine. In this view, Jha confirmed for more three peoples of Tablighi Jamaat.
Detailing on the strict implementation of lockdown/curfew and maximum use of technology Jha said that 260 crimes have been registered through drone, through this surveillance till today, 7,011 crimes have been registered and 14,841 people have been arrested. Whereas, under the Smart City and Vishvas project, CCTV network has registered 62 offenses and arrested 67 people, To date 13,110 people have been arrested across the state for 1,268 crimes.
Similarly, through social media, in connection with spreading fake messages and rumors, so far 370 crimes have been registered and 703 accused have been arrested. 48 and 219 offenses have been registered, respectively, through videography and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). 179 offences have been registered so far with 17 mounted cameras special ‘Prahari’ Van.
Cases that have been registered so far which include 1,986 of the violation of lockdown 870 against violating home quarantine and 371 other cases. 1982 vehicles have been seized in the state, added Mr. Jha. Also, a total of 69,205 vehicles have been released so far including 10,033 vehicles released on yesterday.
CM instructs admn to take spl care of police, health staff
Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani today issued specific instructions to the state administration to take special care for the personnel of police and health departments who have been infected with ‘COVID-19’ virus while discharging their duties.
The Chief Minister gave these instructions to the Chief Secretary and other senior officials of the state government during the Core Committee meeting that met through video-conference.
The Chief Minister also had sent his good wishes to this person for their faster and complete recovery so that they can re-join their duties.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Anil Mukim, Kailashnathan – Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, and other senior secretaries.
