Senior officials of the Southern Railway paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary on Sunday by holding various events like photo exhibitions and cleanliness drive in all stations.
Southern Railway General Manager BG Mallya paid floral tributes to the the picture of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi at Chennai Central.
Later the GM and his wife went around an exhibition featuring the cleanliness and waste aspects during a train journey at Chennai Central.

Madurai DRM inaugurates photo expo on Gandhiji
Divisional Railway Manager of Madurai Padmanapan Ananth and other senior officials paid floral tributes to the photograph of Gandhiji at Gandhi Corner, a memorial erected at Madurai Junction to commemorate the visit of Mahatma Gandhi to Madurai by train during 1921.

He also inaugurated an exhibition of 100 photographs related to Gandhi’s life history. Also, the fortnight cleanliness campaign, which has been going on since September 16, will end today.

To mark this occasion, an exhibition on the elimination of single-use plastic products was held to save the only earth that exists. The exhibition was also inaugurated by the Madurai Divisional Railway Manager. Single-use plastics are difficult to recycle, cause toxicity in water and food supplies, cause glandular dysfunction and cancer, harm birds and marine life, affect our food chain and many more. Products such as bamboo, wooden sticks, paper products, silver food packs were placed in the exhibition as an alternative to plastic straws, plastic cans used for carrying food products, plastic stick candies, plastic flags, small spoons, etc. to create awareness among travelling public.
The cleanliness drive and campaign work carried out at various railway stations over Madurai Division were telecast through TV. A bust of Gandhi and modern paintings on the cleanliness campaign were painted on the exterior wall of elevator in first platform of Madurai Junction.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager Thanneeru Rameshbabu, Senior Engineer Narayanan, Senior Mechanical Engineer Satish Saravanan, Environment Manager Mahesh Gadkari, Divisional Commercial Manager Prabhu Premkumar, Divisional Personnel Officer T. Sankaran also participated.
