S Rly shatters 9-year record, registers monthly freight loading of 3.621 MT during May 2022

Southern Railway on Thursday announced that it has shattered the nine year record  by registering the best ever monthly freight loading of 3.621 Million Tonnes (MT) in May’ 2022. 

Incidentally, this is the highest monthly loading in the last 9 years . The incremental loading in the month of May has been 1.184 MT i.e. a growth of 49 % over the previous best May figures achieved in 2021.  With this, Southern Railway has had 3rd consecutive month of best ever monthly freight loading of more than 3 MT.  This growth has been fuelled by incremental loading of 0.498 MT in Coal, followed by 0.207 MT in POL, 0.173 MT in Cement & Clinker, 0.159 MT in Food grains ,0.109 MT in  other goods.

• Improved loading in POL, Clinker and Food Grain sectors
• With this, Southern Railway has had 3rd consecutive month of best ever monthly freight loading of more than 3 MT.

The cumulative freight loading in the first two months of the financial  year (April & May 2022) has been 6.857 MT as against 5.323 MT achieved in 2021-22 i.e. an incremental loading of 1.534 MT, with a growth of 29% over same period last year.

The sustained efforts of Southern Railway to increase supply of Coal to Power houses, in close coordination with Railway Board and Power Plants, have been one of the key features of the freight performance in the month of May. The loading of Coal to Power Houses (both domestic and imported) has increased by more than 0.263 MT in May with  a growth of 26%. Cumulatively, in the first two months of the year SR has loaded more than 0.111 MT extra coal to Power Houses as compared to same period of last year with a growth of 5%.  With these concerted  efforts, the trend of reducing coal stocks at Power houses has been reversed and the coal stocks at the Power houses have again started improving on a regular basis.
