As a part of a major anti-encroachment drive, the officials of Southern Railway’s Chennai Division removed all the 41 encroachments on Villivakkam railway station road on Thursday under heavy security.

“In spite of insurmountable protests from all sections, all the 41 encroachments at Villivakkam were evicted successfully on Thursday at 5 pm. Highly motivated team of Chennai Division in close coordination with State officials could achieve the rare over 50 years old hard encroachment eviction from the Railway premises,” says a release.
All the 41 encroachments at Villivakkam, Railway station Road close to suburban lines have been evicted on Friday after completing formalities. Four JCBs along with four wood cutting machines were deployed along with a heavy police force. Form A notice had been issued on 16.08.2021 and Form B notice was issued on 21.10.2021 by the Additional Divisional Railway Manager[Estate officer] of Chennai Division as per the Public Premises [Eviction of unauthorised occupants] Act, 1971, the statement added.
Several attempts were made in previous occasions and got postponed due to various reasons and based on the request from the State authorities. The State Government finally arranged required police protection to support process of eviction. After convincing at various level, most of the unauthorised occupants have evicted their belongings and demolishing process has been commenced at around 12.30 pm and completed by 5 pm on Friday with the help of 33 RPF staff, 13 GRP , 90 state police and 60 engineering staff.
