Gujarat-based Sabarkantha District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd (Sabar Dairy) has announced the setting up of its largest state-of-the-art plant at Wargal, Gajwel near Hyderabad in Telangana with an investment of Rs.500 crore for marketing of Amul milk and range of fresh products.

Sabar Dairy selected Telangana to set up its largest plant in southern India with a capacity to process five lakh litres per day of milk expandable to 10 LLPD to manufacture packed milk and value-added dairy products such as curd, buttermilk, lassi, yogurt, paneer, sweets, among others.
Sabar will also set up its bakery production division in Telangana with a range of products such as breads, biscuits, traditional sweets and baked snacks.
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Telangana Government and Sabar Dairy for construction of an Integrated Dairy Plant for manufacturing of Milk and Milk products at Wargal near Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The MoU has been signed by Dr Babubhai Patel, MD, Sabar Dairy and Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries, in the presence of K T Ramarao, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Telangana and Manoranjan Pani, CGM, GCMMF, J Rajan, zonal sales head, GCMMF and Pravin Patel, General Manager, Sabar Dairy.
The plant will come up in a special food processing zone in Telangana with an investment of about Rs 300 crore in Phase 1 and Rs 200 crore in Phase-2.
The plant is likely to begin its commercial production within 18 to 24 months. It will provide direct employment to more than 500 persons and opportunities to several ancillary industries.
With this plant, Amul will strive to procure the required milk and other raw material from Telangana farmers and the various cooperatives and FPOs operating in the state.
Rama Rao thanked the Amul leadership team for agreeing to set up their largest plant in Telangana and highlighted the all-round performance of the State.
The Minister said Telangana was experiencing a water revolution and was in the process of witnessing another White Revolution (milk) with Amul entering the State. This will add strength to Telangana’s milk industry, he said.
Babubhai Patel said Amul decided to set up their plant in Telangana after seeing the State’s industru-friendly policy and investment ecosystem. “We will soon deliver ‘Made in Telangana’ milk products,” he said in the meeting.
