Placing worker safety at the heart of one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has taken safety awareness directly to the ground through its ‘Prayas’ Nukkad Natak campaign across construction sites of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project.
With thousands of workers engaged across multiple construction zones along the high-speed rail corridor, the initiative used street theatre performances to deliver powerful and relatable safety messages to workers.
Held between February 23 and March 7, 2026, the ten-day campaign sensitised around 6,000 workers across different construction sites about the importance of maintaining strict workplace safety practices.
During the programme, performers delivered engaging and impactful street plays encouraging workers to mandatorily use safety equipment such as helmets, harness belts, safety shoes and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits, while reinforcing the importance of following established safety protocols at all times.
The safety outreach programme covered 40 construction sites across the corridor, including 24 sites in Gujarat and 16 in Maharashtra.
These locations included stations, casting yards, tunnels, depots, bridges and viaduct construction sites, where a large number of workers are actively involved in building India’s first high-speed rail network.
Through the performances, workers were also given several practical safety reminders, including taking responsibility for their own safety and that of their co-workers, avoiding shortcuts, and strictly following prescribed safety rules.
The street plays also emphasised key practices such as not undertaking work without proper training, assessing potential risks before starting tasks, and maintaining cleanliness and alertness at the workplace.
The ‘Prayas’ initiative has been conducted at Bullet Train construction sites for the past three years, emerging as an effective platform to increase safety awareness and encourage responsible work behaviour among workers.
By combining cultural storytelling with critical safety messaging, the programme reinforces a simple but vital principle — construction work can be carried out safely and confidently only when safety rules and precautions are consistently followed.
