AHMEDABAD, JAN 12
In a landmark step towards deepening civil–military integration, the Indian Air Force (IAF), under the aegis of the South Western Air Command, has launched the first-ever ‘Sanyukt Prashikshan’ (Joint Training Programme) at Air Force Station Bhuj, famously known as the Defenders of Kutch.
Conducted on the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the initiative translates the government’s “whole-of-nation” approach to national security into operational practice, bringing together the Armed Forces and civil services on a common training platform.
- IAF-led initiative operationalises Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Whole-of-Nation’ security doctrine
- Armed Forces and civil services train together at strategic Kutch frontier
The joint training programme is designed to enhance cooperation, mutual understanding and seamless operational coordination between uniformed services and civilian administrators—an increasingly critical requirement in contemporary security scenarios involving border management, disaster response, internal security and hybrid threats.
From Coordination to Cohesion
‘Sanyukt Prashikshan’ features a carefully structured blend of:
- Expert lectures on national security and crisis management
- Tabletop exercises simulating real-world contingencies
- Practical field drills to foster on-ground coordination
By training side by side, officers from the Armed Forces and civil administration gain first-hand insight into each other’s roles, constraints and decision-making processes, enabling faster, more effective responses during emergencies and national contingencies.
Defence officials said the initiative reflects a shift from departmental coordination to institutional cohesion, ensuring that India’s response mechanisms function as a single, integrated system rather than parallel silos.
Bhuj: A Strategic Choice
Holding the programme at Air Force Station Bhuj, a base of immense strategic importance near India’s western frontier, underlines the operational relevance of the exercise. The region’s experience with natural disasters, border tensions and strategic logistics makes it an ideal setting for testing and refining joint operational frameworks.
A Template for the Future
‘Sanyukt Prashikshan’ is expected to serve as a template for similar joint training programmes across the country, reinforcing the national vision of jointness, preparedness and integrated governance.
Officials indicated that such initiatives would strengthen India’s ability to respond decisively to security challenges, humanitarian crises and complex emergencies, where coordination between civil authorities and the Armed Forces is critical.
