Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the ‘Run For Unity’ in New Delhi also paid tributes to Patel, stating that the country — from Kashmir to Kanyakumari — has been united due to the unforgettable contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Shah, who attended an event to commemorate Patel, urged all citizens to take a pledge to put the nation in the top position in the world in all sectors by 2047 when it will celebrate the centenary of its Independence.
The ‘Run for Unity’ which began from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the national capital, saw over 7,700 people, including sports personalities, sports enthusiasts and personnel of central police forces, taking part in it.
Union ministers Anurag Thakur, Meenakshi Lekhi, Nityanand Rai, Ajay Kumar Mishra, Nisith Pramanik, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and others attended the event.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that it was Sardar Vallabhai Patel’s foresight in statesmanship and vision in diplomacy that led to the unification of India as he flagged off the Run for Unity event along with chief minister Yogi Adityanath to mark the 148th birth anniversary of the country’s first home minister here in Lucknow on Tuesday.
Speaking about the contribution of Sardar Patel, Singh said, “When India became Independent on August 15, 1947, it was an India divided into 562 princely states. The British deliberately gave the opportunity to the princely states to remain separate instead of merging them. It was because of Sardar Patel as the home minister of the country that the whole of India was able to unite.”
Singh said that the role that Patel played in making India independent must be highlighted to the nation. He said the current government, for the last 10 years, have made efforts to ensure that Patel gets the respect due to him.

Over 1,000 take part in Army’s ‘Run For Unity’ in Ahmedabad
