Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology on Thursday announced that it will confer Honorary Doctorate on eminent scientist Dr V Balaguru and Music Director Yuvan Shankar Raja at its 31st Convocation to be held on Saturday.
The convocation address will be delivered by Chief Guest Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence R & D and Chairman, DRDO, in the presence of Honorary Chancellor Dr Mariazeena Johnson, President Dr Marie Johnson. Vice President Maria Bernadette Arul Selvan, Vice President J Arul Selvan, Vice President Maria Catherine Jayapria.
- Honorary Doctorates (Honoris Causa) will be conferred on Dr V Balaguru, Outstanding Scientist
- A total of 2257 Under-Graduates, 409 Postgraduates and 143 PhD scholars will receive their degrees.
- Among them 23 students will be awarded with gold medals for their exemplary performance in academics.
According a university release, the Honorary Doctorate will be conferred on Yuvan Shankar Raja in recognition of his working as music composer right from the age of 16 and composing music for more than 150 films within a span of two and half decades in various languages.
Honorary Doctorates (Honoris Causa) will be conferred on Dr V Balaguru, Outstanding Scientist, Associate Director (MBT & TOT) & Project Director (Light Tank) (CVRDE), DRDO. He has contributed to the design and development of Arjun MBT Mk-I and Light Tank. He immensely contributed in Design of 5 Major and 25 Minor improved subsystems for Arjun MBT Mk-IA.
