In a bid to support the Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to contain the spread of Covid -19, Sathyabama Group of institutions led by Dr Mariazeena Johnson, Chancellor, Dr Marie Johnson, President, Maria Bernadette Tamilarasi Johnson, Vice- President of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University ) donated a sum of Rs. 50 lakh towards the Government of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund, says a release.
The team of philanthropists has also greeted the newly-elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for making every effort to overcome unprecedented challenges posed by the pandemic.
The Chief Minister has expressed his gratitude to the team for rising to the occasion. Incidentally, Sathyabama Group of institutions had donated Rs 25 lakh each to the Centre and state governments last year to undertake corona relief works.
TN CM Stalin seeks donation for the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (CMPRF)
Chief Minister MK Stalin had on Tuesday requested the public and private organisations to donate generously to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (CMPRF) as the State is in dire need of financial support.
He assured that money will only be spent for increasing oxygen beds at hospitals, uninterrupted supply of life-saving drugs and life-saving gas, improving the infrastructure of hospitals, purchasing vaccines and other medical expenses. Accounts of the CMPRF will be made public, he added.
Tax relief for donations
Donations made from within the country would be exempted under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, contributions from NRIs would be exempted under Section 50 in The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010, added the statement.

Funds can be contributed through debit, credit cards, and internet banking through the link https://ereceipt.tn.gov.in/cmprf/cmprf.html
