The first batch of 288 delegates from Tamil Nadu left for Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam in a special train in the early hours on Saturday, says a release from PIB.

Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi flagged off the special train at Egmore Railway station around 00.30 hours in the presence of Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh and top official from several central government departments.

The special train from Madurai to Veraval, with four coaches earmarked for delegates of Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam left Madurai with 158 delegates while 84 delegates joined at Trichirappalli and 46 boarded at Chennai Egmore and thereby a total of 288 delegates left for Somnath. The delegates will participate in various cultural exchange programmes in Gujarat.
Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is an initiative by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of I&B and Govt of Gujarat along with IRCTC and other educational institutions of both the states.
Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is a unique exercise to facilitate a consistent and improved exchange between individuals from diverse regions and lifestyles.
Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is an initiative of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ program, aims to preserve and promote the rich culture & heritage of Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu.
