“Farmers can see a good profit if they sell traditional rice varieties and small grains as value-added products,” voiced agriculturist experts speaking at a natural farming seminar organized by the Save Soil Movement on Sunday.
Ranipet District Collector Bhaskarapandian was the special guest and delivered the felicitation address. More than 500 enthusiastic farmers joined the seminar organized in Arcot.
Nagarathinam Naidu, an accomplished farmer from Telangana, who obtained a yield of 90 bags (7,000 kg) from 2 kg of seed paddy, highlighted the techniques for high yield in paddy. Famous entomologist Poochi Selvam shared his inputs on the insects which may harm the paddy field and the controlling measures.
Founder of Dhanyas from Madurai, Dinesh Mani spoke in detail about the need to sell traditional rice as a value-added product. Lakshmidevi from Ambasamuthram shared her experience about the techniques she followed in rice cultivation and revealed methods of getting high yields in traditional rice varieties. A distinguished woman farmer, she has received an award from the Tamil Nadu government for the highest yield in traditional rice cultivation. Apart from this, an exhibition and sale of traditional seeds and an exhibition of weeding tools were also held in this seminar.
