Even after the state government has launched the ‘baby cradle scheme’ to protect baby girls, a three-day-old baby girl with 20 stab wounds was found in a village in Rajkot district. She has been admitted to a hospital, where she is said to be in stable condition.
The newborn baby was found in an open field between Mahik and Thebachada villages on Wednesday when a few boys on their way to play cricket heard her cries. When the boys followed the direction of the noise they saw a dog carrying the baby between its teeth.
The boys pelted stones at the dog to make sure that the animal dropped the baby.
After the boys picked up the baby, they noticed something gut-wrenching. The baby has been stabbed over 20 times.
The stab marks on the baby’s body indicate that not only was she abandoned after her birth, someone tried to kill her, brutally.
According to the doctors treating her at a government hospital, the infant is recovering from her wounds.
“There were at least 20 stab wounds at her back when she was brought here. We could see that she had soil in her mouth and she was not breathing. But now she is in stable condition,” Dr Divya Brar said.
Police are investigating the matter.
