AHMEDABAD, OCT 8
City-based Saviour Hospital on Thursday deployed the world’s most widely adopted US FDA approved Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Technology in Gujarat, said a press release issued jointly by Stryker India, a leading global medical device company, headquartered in the US, and Saviour Hospital.
The launch comes as an important milestone for Saviour Hospital and Stryker, in their endeavor to bring the most advanced technology and treatment for patients suffering from knee and hip joint disorders. Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Surgery System enables surgeons to deliver more predictable surgical outcomes with increased accuracy.
Elaborating on the difference between conventional and Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Surgery, Dr. HP Bhalodiya, Head – Department of Joint Replacement at Saviour Hospital, explains that one of the challenges with traditional surgery is that surgical accuracy depends mostly on the surgeon’s experience and technique. He says: “Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Surgery enables surgeon to make precise bone cuts every single time, first on a virtual 3D model and then in the operation theatre. With Mako, we have been able to know more about our patients than ever-before and we are able to cut less. For some patients, this can mean less soft tissue damage and for others greater bone preservation. First 14 patients we have operated on have shown encouraging results. The precision in bone cuts and implant placement that Mako allows is highly accurate and provides patients near natural knee experience post-surgery.”
Dr. Rushay Bhalodiya, Joint Replacement Surgeon at the hospital, further adds, “While conventional knee replacement surgeries have been improving life of patients effectively over last three decades, Mako System will enhance our accuracy significantly. As suggested by clinical literature and our experience with initial surgeries with the technology, we have seen tremendous patient benefits such as precise planning and bone cuts, more bone and soft tissue preservation, less post-op pain, faster recovery, quicker discharge and less blood loss.”
Commenting on the technology, Dr. HP Bhalodiya shares, “Mako has the potential to transform the way joint replacement surgeries are performed. While there are several technologies available in the market, we chose Mako considering its strong clinical outcomes that are not transferable to other technologies. I am sure a day will come when this technology will be a standard of care in every operating room. We are very proud to bring world class care to the doorstep of patients in Gujarat.”
Congratulating Saviour Hospital on this important milestone, Meenakshi Nevatia, Vice President and Managing Director of Stryker India, said, “We are very happy to partner with Saviour Hospital and it is indeed a proud moment for Stryker. Our common vision of bringing newer innovations to improve patient outcomes and making healthcare better makes our partnership with the hospital very special. We are truly excited about the potential impact on serving patients needing knee and hip replacement across Gujarat.”
The largest global install base of more than 1,000 Mako Systems (and counting), over 500,000 Mako procedures across the globe and more than 250 publications in published, peer reviewed studies establish the clinical prowess of Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Technology.
