AHMEDABAD, SEPT 22
Goldman Sachs has expanded its global 10,000 Women initiative in India by partnering with the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) and the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow Enterprise Incubation Centre (IIML-EIC). They join IIM Bangalore’s NSRCEL, the program’s long-standing academic partner, to equip women entrepreneurs with world-class skills, networks, and access to capital.
The expansion aims to double the number of women graduates in India to 10,000 by 2033, with 1,000 women entrepreneurs expected to graduate in the coming year alone.
Driving India’s Growth Story
The initiative is designed to unlock the potential of women-led enterprises to fuel innovation, job creation, and inclusive growth—directly supporting the government’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.
Sonjoy Chatterjee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs’ business in India, said:
“We are doubling our commitment to women entrepreneurs in India. Widening our partnership with India’s premier business schools will drive a powerful combination of education, mentorship, and networks for these entrepreneurs. They will become pillars of India’s growth.”
Academic Leaders on the Partnership
Professor Bharat Bhasker, Director of IIM Ahmedabad, highlighted the institute’s role: “IIM Ahmedabad has been a torchbearer of entrepreneurship development in India. Our collaboration with Goldman Sachs helps address the critical barriers women entrepreneurs face, particularly in accessing capital and networks. By combining our academic expertise with the global reach of the initiative, we can strengthen an ecosystem that empowers women to scale their businesses and emerge as leaders in the economy.”
Professor M. P. Gupta, Director of IIM Lucknow, emphasized the ripple effect of women-led enterprises: “Promoting female entrepreneurship in India is not just about breaking barriers but creating a multiplier impact that inspires generations. Through this partnership with Goldman Sachs, we aim to establish a supportive ecosystem where women-led ventures can flourish, scale, and transform society.”
Unlocking Womenomics in India
Goldman Sachs’ “India Womenomics” research shows that India, with its favorable demographics, stands at a unique moment of opportunity. Increasing women’s labor force participation is key to unlocking future growth, yet India’s participation rate remains below that of other major economies.
The 10,000 Women program has already delivered measurable impact in India:
- 4x increase in revenues and 2x increase in workforce among graduates
- 12,000+ new jobs created by alumni
- Billions of rupees in revenue added to the economy
- 90%+ graduates mentoring other women and creating further opportunities
Building the Future of Women Entrepreneurship
By scaling its reach with India’s top business schools, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women is not just empowering individual entrepreneurs but also shaping India’s entrepreneurial landscape for the next decade—helping women-led ventures become engines of growth and resilience.
