Security checking of cabin baggages made easier and faster at the domestic terminal now, as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has speeded up screening of cabin bags with the automatic tray retrieval system (ATRS) to move bags to and trays on the conveyor connected to baggage scanner.
According to officials, the automatic tray retrieval system (ATRS) has been installed at two baggage scanners at security check and one has been commissioned. It will add six more scanners by February or March.
Often, people had to wait for their bags to get scanned as the trays on which their electronic gadgets and wallets were kept had to be pushed manually over a conveyor towards the scanning machine. This resulting delay in security checking process and has caused congestion during peak hours, especially during morning, the officials said.
Officials said that the new facility will help Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to scan 800 to 900 cabin bags in an hour as against 400 bags an hour at scanners that do not have the automatic system.
