Southern Railway on Tuesday said it was engaged in commissioning of a new data centre in the city and public, passengers may experience some ‘down-time’ and restrictions while using the reservation facilities and also in the IRCTC website in this connection.
The Railways manage passenger reservation system, unreserved ticketing through its four data centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The Chennai data centre caters to Southern Railway, South Central Railway and South Western Railway.
“A new data centre is being commissioned at Chennai and on account of this down-times will be experienced by railway department users, passengers and public. During this down time, there will also be few restrictions in passenger reservation, and also at the IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) website,” a press release said here.
Passengers are advised to book in advance wherever it was possible, the release added.
The day wise restriction that are likely to be experienced are listed below:
Day 1
Date: 25.08.2021 (Wednesday)
Time : 00.15 hrs to 04.15 hrs (4 hours)
Repercussion due to downtime:
(1) Ticketing/enquiries at Counters over Southern Railway, South Central Railway
and South Western Railway will not be available
(2) IRCTC Website/Internet Ticketing will not be available for trains originating
from Southern Railway, South Central Railway and South Western Railway
(3) Booking of Parcels by Parcel Management System (PMS) and booking of
Retiring Rooms on line will not be available for Southern Railway and South
Western Railway
(4) Unreserved Ticketing (UTS) will continue to be available
Day 2
Date: 27.08.2021 (Friday)
Time : 00.15 hrs to 05.00 hrs (4 hours 45 Minutes)
Repercussion due to downtime:
(1) Ticketing/enquiries will not be available at PRS counters of Southern Railway
and South Western Railway
(2) Normal ticketing will be available through IRCTC website; and over counters
in South Central Railway
(3) Unreserved Ticketing (UTS) will be available as usual
(4) Booking of Parcels by PMS; and booking of Retiring Rooms online will not be
available for Southern Railway and South Western Railway
Day 3 to Day 5
Date: 28.08.2021(Saturday), 29.08.2021(Sunday) and 30.08.2021(Monday)
Time: From 23.45 hrs to 02.00 hrs (2 Hours 15 Minutes) on all 3 days
Repercussion due to downtime:
(1) During the down-times of 2 hours 15 minutes on each night, PRS Counters
and Internet ticketing and enquiries will not be available for Southern
Railway, South Central Railway and South Western Railway
(2) At other times, full complement of services will be available from Disaster
Recovery site at counters and on Internet
(3) UTS services will be continuously available.
