With an aim to impart the recent advancements in treating ‘Knee Osteoarthritis (OA)’, city-based Shree B G Patel College of Physiotherapy (SBGPCOPA) has conducted a symposium on ‘Knee Osteoarthritis’ here on Thursday. It was organized by the Department of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy of the college, said Principal Dr Manojkumar.
While college Chairman Dr. G.G. Patel presided over the function, veteran Joint Replacement & Arthroscopic Surgeon Dr. Ashish Brahmbhatt was the chief guest of the symposium.

In his inaugural address, Chairman Dr. G.G. Patel hailed Principal Dr Manojkumar for his futuristic vision of continuous updating of knowledge by holding this important symposium. This will not only help the students to gain knowledge on the recent advancements in treating ‘Knee Osteoarthritis (OA)’ but also make them future-ready healthcare experts, Patel added.

Chief guest Dr. Ashish Brahmbhatt appreciated the efforts taken by the SBGPCOPA in holding such events and threw light on the scientific advancements taking place in alleviating the knee pain. He exhorted the students to learn, relearn and upskill lifelong so that they can stay ahead of others in their profession.

Emphasizing on the need to host such symposiums, Principal Dr. Manojkumar said, “This symposium will enhance the holistic approach of learning about osteoarthritis that can benefit not only the students of physiotherapy but also the patients alike.”
The panel of speakers for the symposium was Dr. Sneha Bhatia, Dr. Ashish Brambhatt, Dr. Manojkumar, Dr.Dipti Padole, Dr. Mayur Chudasma, Dr.M Balaganpathy and Dr. Hanzala Sheikh.
Dr. Sneha Bhatia explained about the pathophysiology of the knee joint. Dr. Ashish Brambhatt shared his knowledge on medical and surgical management of OA knee, including total knee replacement. Principal Dr. Manojkumar spoke on pain management of OA knee. Dr. Dipti Padole spoke on assessment of OA knee joint. Dr.M Balaganpathy spoke on recent evidences of OA knee and physiotherapy management of total knee replacement. Dr. Hanzala spoke on the role of diet in OA knee management. Dr. Mayur Chudasma spoke on role of orthosis in OA Knee. MPT students Dr. Shreyas Shetty and Dr. Harsh Rathod have demonstrated exercises for managing the OA knee pain.
Around 150 participants were benefited and enjoyed the holistic approach of learning.
Vote of thanks was given by Professor Dr. M Balaganpathy. The event was concluded with the national anthem.
