the largest third-party lens producer has on Thursday unveiled its latest innovation, the 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens, which is touted as the world’s smallest and lightest f/2.8 zoom lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras. This lens also marks Sigma’s first release simultaneously for L-Mount, Sony E-mount, and Fujifilm X Mount.
Announcing the launch in India, Seshan, Managing Director, Shetala Agencies Pvt Ltd, the sole nationwide distributor of SIGMA said that the lens “measuring just 2.8 x 2.4 inches (72.2 x 62 millimeters) and weighing a mere 260 grams), the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 lens is compact and lightweight without compromising on image quality. The tiny lens is also dust- and splash-resistant, offering added durability and protection for outdoor shoots.’’
He further said that the lens covers a focal length range of 15-36mm in 35mm equivalent terms, making it ideal for various photography genres such as landscape, night sky, architectural, and travel photography. When paired with Sigma’s existing 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens, these two lenses provide a versatile focal length range of 17-75mm (35mm equivalent) with a constant f/2.8 aperture.
Sigma’s engineers have integrated advanced optics into the lens, incorporating 13 elements organized across 10 groups. This includes three FLD, one SLD, and four aspherical lens elements. Furthermore, the lens features an innovative aspherical concave lens that significantly reduces the overall length and necessary lens elements.
To keep the lens as compact as possible, Sigma designed a push-on petal-type lens hood with a unique spring and lever structure. This ensures the lens hood remains thin and small, contributing to the overall lightweight design of the lens.
In terms of autofocus performance, the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 zoom lens promises minimal focus breathing and offers a short 4.6-inch (11.6cm) minimum focusing distance. This allows for a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 at the wide end.
Seshan said, the lens is also compatible with various camera-specific features, including electronic image stabilization, aberration correction, DMF, and AF+MF.
The Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens will be available at Shetala Agencies and also from authorized retailers across the nation for Rs 65,000. The product will be available from October 26 from its six own outlets, Seshan said.
