AHMEDABAD, NOV 1
When nine fighter aircraft slice through the skies in breathtaking synchronisation, leaving behind the vibrant colours of the Indian Tricolour, the spectacle is about far more than aerial artistry. It is a stirring demonstration of courage, discipline, split-second precision and absolute trust. Bhavnagar witnessed this extraordinary fusion of patriotism and flying prowess on Sunday as the Indian Air Force’s celebrated Suryakiran Aerobatic Team transformed the skies above Bor Talav (Gaurishankar Lake) into a spectacular canvas of national pride.
In an aerial extravaganza that brought the city together, the nine red-and-white Hawk Mk-132 aircraft executed a succession of demanding aerobatic manoeuvres, demonstrating the exceptional coordination and flying skills of the Indian Air Force. The first-ever event of its kind hosted by Bhavnagar offered residents an opportunity to witness the celebrated team’s capabilities at close quarters.

The approximately 30-to-40-minute display featured close formation flying, breathtaking wingtip-to-wingtip sequences, loops, rolls, inverted flying and other intricate manoeuvres. The aircraft’s saffron, white and green smoke trails painted the skies in the colours of the national flag, creating an unforgettable visual tribute to the spirit of India.
Large crowds gathered along the shores of Bor Talav and at vantage points across the city to witness the daredevil performance, turning the lakeside into a vibrant celebration of national pride and admiration for the armed forces.
Nine Hawks, one heart-stopping display of precision
The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team once again demonstrated why it is regarded as one of the most distinguished aerial display formations in the region. Established in 1996, it is recognised as Asia’s only nine-aircraft aerobatic formation and serves as one of the Indian Air Force’s most visible ambassadors.
Flying Hawk Mk-132 aircraft manufactured under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the team has completed more than 800 aerial displays in India and abroad.
Its motto, “Sadaiva Sarvottam” — Always the Best, was vividly reflected in the seamless execution of the Bhavnagar performance.
Behind every breathtaking formation lies an extraordinary combination of rigorous preparation, technical expertise, situational awareness and mutual trust. The precision with which the aircraft maintained their formations and executed complex manoeuvres offered spectators a glimpse of the demanding standards expected of India’s military aviators.
Courage, coordination and the spirit of the squadron
The team is commanded by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, with Wing Commander Tejeshwar Singh serving as Flight Commander. The seamless coordination among the 13 pilots and the supporting technical and operational personnel highlighted the collective effort that makes such complex aerial performances possible.
The spectacular formations were not merely demonstrations of individual flying skills. They reflected the discipline, teamwork and painstaking preparation required to execute demanding manoeuvres while maintaining exacting formation standards.
For the spectators, each loop, roll and close-formation sequence was an exhilarating reminder of the professionalism and dedication of the Indian Air Force.
Beyond the skies: inspiring the next generation
The celebrations extended well beyond the aerial display, with several public outreach initiatives designed to bring the armed forces closer to citizens, particularly young people.
An Indian Air Force motivational stall provided information about career opportunities, selection procedures and life in uniform, encouraging students and aspiring candidates to explore a future in the service of the nation.
An Air Simulator facility offered visitors a realistic introduction to aircraft controls and flying procedures, generating considerable enthusiasm among participants across age groups.
Adding a stirring musical dimension, the Air Force Band of Headquarters South Western Air Command presented an engaging repertoire of martial tunes, patriotic melodies and ceremonial compositions. Its performance reinforced the day’s patriotic spirit and added to the celebratory atmosphere.
Bhavnagar takes pride in a historic aerial showcase
The event was organised jointly by the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation and the District Administration of Bhavnagar, with free entry for all citizens. Designated viewing areas around the lake and elevated vantage points across the city enabled spectators to witness the performance.
Nimuben Bambhaniya, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, attended the event as Chief Guest.
Special guests included Air Vice Marshal GS Bhullar, Senior Officer Administration, Headquarters South Western Air Command, Gandhinagar, along with senior ministers of the Gujarat Government and elected representatives from the region.
Their participation underscored the collaborative relationship between the Indian Air Force, civil administration and the people of Gujarat.

When the Indian Air Force meets the people
The Bhavnagar air show was an opportunity to take the Indian Air Force’s flying excellence beyond operational establishments and bring its capabilities directly to the public.
By combining an extraordinary aerial display with career guidance, an interactive simulator and a military band performance, the event created a wider platform for public engagement and youth inspiration.

The Indian Air Force placed on record its appreciation for the district administration, municipal authorities, police and other supporting agencies for ensuring the smooth conduct of the event. It also acknowledged the people of Bhavnagar for their enthusiastic participation and warm reception.
As the Suryakiran aircraft completed their spectacular formations over Bor Talav, they left behind more than colourful smoke trails. They reinforced a powerful message about the courage, discipline and collective excellence that define the Indian Air Force—and inspired another generation to look skywards in pursuit of service to the nation.
