Smt SR Mehta Arts College, which is part of Navgujarat Group of Colleges run by Vidya Bhavan Trust, recently organised Sports Week at its campus. The celebrations were held from March 26-31, with a view to providing students with a platform to develop and showcase their sporting talent.  Some 70 students participated in various sporting events, in addition to other alumni members.

In Chess, Dashrath Ahir (Visually Impaired) was the winner while Mala Ven (Visually Impaired) and Shakti Menia were first and second runners up, respectively.-NE photo

The Sports Week celebrations were held at the newly constructed and well-equipped Indoor Sports Facility at the Navgujarat Campus along Ashram Road,

Games such as Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Chess were organised as part of the Sports Week events.

On March 26 and 27, the Badminton, Chess and Table Tennis games were held at the college. In the Boys Category, Parab Vinayak bagged the first prize whereas Makwana Sahil bagged the second prize and Shaikh Samiroddin won the third prize in Badminton.

In the girls category for Badminton, Mittal Chauhan emerged as the winner and Karishma Gurjar and Namrata Sonara were the first and second runners up, respectively.

In Chess, Dashrath Ahir (Visually Impaired) was the winner while Mala Ven (Visually Impaired) and Shakti Menia were first and second runners up, respectively.

Kadam Dev and Parab Vinayak bagged the first and second prizes in Table Tennis.

“By participating in various sports and games, students can improve their skills, coordination, and teamwork abilities. Besides students, alumni members of the college were also actively involved in the celebrations, serving as an inspiration for participants. The sports week concluded with a culmination of joy, excitement, thrill, satisfaction, and happiness among students and faculty members, leaving everyone with cherished memories to hold onto,” said Dr Seema Kadri, Assistant Professor, Physical Education, speaking about the event.

On March 28, a fitness competition was also organised, which put participants through a series of rigorous challenges such as sit-ups, push-ups, skipping, front rolls and standing broad jumps, among others.

In order of rank from 1 to 5, Mandip Makwana, Kiran Gamara, Ganpat Solanki, Jaydeep Khant and Dhaval Taviad were selected among the top five athletes in the competition.

On March 30 and 31, a volleyball tournament was also organised by the institute at the Sabarmati Railway Ground. The team SRM Lions, led by Captain Khant Jaydeep, were declared the champions.
