Leading gold finance NBFC Muthoot Finance has launched the monthly dole (pension) scheme for the veteran artists/writers under its flagship CSR initiative, ‘Snehasammanam Scheme’, here on Monday.
Virugambakkam MLA A M V Prabhakar Raja distributed the cheques and plaques to the aged artists/writers.
Prabhakar Raja said, “The pandemic has affected the lives of everyone in some way or the other. During the Covid-induced lockdowns, the structure of the arts and cultural industry left working artists and performers in dire straight. Artists had faced many challenges, majority of them lost their livelihood. I commend Muthoot Finance for providing them the much needed support they require through their Snehasammanam initiative.”
The MLA assured that the people-friendly government following the footsteps of late Kalaignar Karunanidhi and led by Chief Minister MK Stalin would look into the problems of poor and downtrodden artists. He would take up the issue to alleviate the poverty of aged artists with the CM.

Speaking about the CSR initiative, Sareesh R – Zonal Manager, Tamil Nadu, North Zone, Muthoot Finance, said, “Art contributes to the culture of our nation in a major way. Often the contribution made by artists is undervalued which adds up to the financial struggle that they end up facing in their journey, besides other barriers. At Muthoot Finance, we aim to uplift the artists, while also shedding light on the importance of art in our lives. A visionary in the industry, he always recognized the importance of art and believed in supporting the artists.”
Manikandan, Regional Manager, Chennai South, Muthoot Finance said the scheme was conceptualized to take the ancient Tamil arts to the next generation by helping the sustenance of the veterans in different ancient arts.
