Somerset Greenways Chennai & Citadines OMR Chennai on Friday announced they have partnered with Annai Fathima Child Welfare Centre and Udhavum Ullangal Public Charitable Trust under Ascott CARES (Community, Alliance, Respect, Environment, Supply Chain) initiative to provide funds for construction of an orphanage & elderly residents home along with providing clean water access across various schools and development center in Chennai.

The announcement was made in the presence of Rohan Rakendath, Area General Manager, The Ascott Limited India; Mansur Ahmed, General Manager, Somerset Greenways Chennai; Prashanth Rajkumar, General Manager, Citadines OMR Chennai; Rani Krishnan, Founder & Secretary, Annai Fathima Trust & Sankar Mahadeva, Founder & Trustee, Udhavum Ullangal Public Charitable Trust.

Speaking at the event, Rohan Rakendath, Area General Manager, The Ascott Limited India said, “We at Ascott, always aspire to make a positive impact across environmental, social and economic areas in all aspects of our business. Our continuous effort to encourage a conscious lifestyle through the sustainability programme ‘Ascott CARES’ enables us to create a better future for the community. The collaboration with Annai Fathima Child Welfare Centre and Udhavum Ullangal Public Charitable Trust is a testament to our commitment for creating a sustainable change in the society.”

Commenting on the initiative, Prasanna Raghavan, Head of Finance & Sustainability Sponsor, The Ascott Limited India said, “Our commitment to community welfare and sustainability is deeply ingrained and aligned with our responsible business practices. Our initiatives aim to not only” minimize the environmental footprint but also to positively impact the communities we serve.”

The collaboration with Udhavum Ullangal Public Charitable Trust will focus on implementing sustainable clean water projects across schools and development centers. Drinking water will be provided through natural tankers which will operate without electricity, minimize water wastage, easy to assemble and has a lifespan of up to 10 years. Under this initiative, around 23 schools and development centers will be provided with natural water tankers with a range capacity from 1L to 2500L. The water will be delivered through WatsunTM Natural Terafil Water Purifiers, which is patented by Mr Chandrasekaran J, a member of the trust. The trust mainly focusses on welfare programs directed towards education, health and women empowerment.

Somerset Greenways Chennai & Citadines OMR Chennai will also contribute funds for the development of an orphanage and elderly residents’ center which will be developed by Annai Fathima Child Welfare Centre, a government registered charitable organization working towards the welfare of orphan and senior citizens. Both the properties have been supporting this welfare center since 2018 by providing rations, stationary items, and distributing food and clothing.
