MUMMIDIVARAM, (EAST GODAVARI), NOVEMBER 23
Tamil saint Thiruvalluvar’s Thirukkural says that “The way of showing filial devotion is to make others exclaim within the hearing of the father what penance the father must have performed to beget such a son.”
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy proved this on Thursday by fulfilling his father’s dream project.
Jagan dedicated a river overbridge constructed across Pasupu Lanka Varadhi for the public for which his father Y.S. Rajasekara Reddy had laid the foundation when he was the Chief Minister of the state.
To mark the World Fisheries Day, Jagan launched an exclusive scheme for the welfare of the fisherfolk named as “Matsyakara Nestham’’ in Mummidivaram in East Godavari District. On this occasion Jagan dedicated the long-awaited river overbridge project, which was neglected by the previous TDP government.
The Chief Minister unveiled the statue of his father YSR and laid foundation stone for nine control rooms to monitor the movement of boats among others.
Dharmana Satyam was felicitated on this occasion for his bravery act of retrieving a capsized boat from Godavari river in September.
The Chief Minister obliged the fishing community by wearing their attire made of palm leaves and held a fishing net in his hands which was cheered by the gathering. Two fishermen also shared the dais and spoke on the occasion.
Speakers at the meeting had demanded the Chief Minister for a residential school for fishermen, besides health centres and more allowance for housing as the houses would be built closer to the sea which needs a strong foundation. There was also a suggestion for setting up a Marine University in the region.
Local MLA Satish Kumar said that the benefits should reach not only the marine fishing but also to the inland fishermen who use traditional methods along the river and do not go to sea and also requested that Konaseema, when made into a district should be named after Ambedkar as a large number of SCs are living in the region.
Deputy Chief Minister Pilli Subhashchandra Bose said that nearly 80% of the promises made during the electioneering was being implemented by Chief Minister at a time, when politicians are under the habit of ignoring all the promises for the first 4.5 years of their term and go to people at the fag-end of their term with an aim to garner their votes.
