The Southern Railway (SR), jointly with other zonal railways, received overall commercial and safety efficiency shields at the 68th Railway Week Celebrations in New Delhi on Saturday.
Southern Railway General Manager R N Singh, along with Principal Chief Commercial Manager Neenu Ittyerah received the Commercial Efficiency Shield from Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the presence of Jaya Varma Sinha, Chairperson & CEO of Railway Board. The Safety Efficiency Shield was received by the General Manager along with Somesh Kumar, Principal Chief Safety Officer, Southern Railway.

The nine individual awardees also received their awards for meritorious service from the Railway Minister. They are K Veeraperumal, Track Maintainer; MK Sudheesh Kumar, Loco Pilot; T Selva Kumar, Deputy Chief Ticketing Inspector; Deshidi Madhusudhan Reddy, RPF Inspector; A Selvaraja, Senior Section Engineer, Avadi EMU Car Shed;, E Hari Krishnan, IRTS, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager & S Mayileri, Senior Divisional Engineer, Chennai Division; S Mariappan, AXSTE/ Projects/ Chennai Egmore; Durgadevi Vijayakumar, Chief Nursing Superintendent, Perambur Railway Hospital. The awardees expressed pride and thanked the Railways for conferring the highest recognition upon a railway employee.
Ashwini Vaishnaw presented the awards and shields to the best-performing railway personnel in promoting the best practices among railway employees. Shields were presented to Zonal Railways/ PSU’s for best performance in their respective fields.
Altogether, 100 railway employees from various zonal railways and production units & railway PSUs all over the country were awarded for their outstanding services along with 21 Efficiency Shields.
Addressing the gathering after conferring the awards and shields, the Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw congratulated all the awardees for their exceptional work and effort.
“Transformative work is going on at full pace in Railways under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. More electrification has been done in 9.5 years than in the past 40 years. The big picture behind this transformation is, when in 2015 Prime Minister merged the Rail Budget with General Budget, interest/ capital charge which had to be paid earlier on the rail grant was not needed and it removed all financial hindrances for the railways. Lack of Investment, which was the biggest problem for railways, is now a thing of the past.”
Minister of State for Railways, Coal & Mines Raosaheb Patil Danve and Minister of State for Railways & Textile Darshana Jardosh, Chairman & CEO and Members of Railway Board, General Managers of all Zonal Railways and heads of Production Units of Railways and PSUs of Railways participated in the programme.
