The Southern Railway celebrated the 79th Independence Day at the Railway Stadium, Perambur here on Friday with much pomp and gaiety.

R.N. Singh, General Manager, Southern Railway hoisted the National Flag in the presence of K. Arul Jothi, IG-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner, RPF, and took the salute at the RPF parade consisting of RPF contingents, including women platoons and St John’s Ambulance Brigade.

The Independence Day programme was attended by Kaushal Kishore, Additional General Manager; Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway; Shailendra Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai; Sonia Singh, President of Southern Railway Women’s Headquarters Organisation; Officers & Staff and their family members, and representatives of Labour Unions and Associations of Southern Railway.

Addressing the gathering, the General Manager expressed pride in Indian Railways and its dedicated workforce, emphasizing their profound contributions to the Nation’s progress and unity. The General Manager highlighted Southern Railway’s consistent contribution to the overall development of Indian Railways, including the augmentation and modernization of the rail network, as well as providing value added service to its esteemed passengers. Performance highlights of the Zone in various facets of working were also outlined by the General Manager.

Cultural programmes by RPF, Impressive Dog Show by Southern Railway Dog Squad and performances by various departments, including the Railway schools and Ashraya School For Special Children, followed the Flag Hoisting and March Past.

Sushil Kumar Maurya, Chief Administrative Officer, Railway Construction Organisation, Egmore;i Shailendra Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai, and V.S. Prabhaker, Chief Workshop Manager, Perambur Carriage Works hoisted the National flag at their respective Railway offices in Chennai.

Utpal Parna Hazarika, Member (Technical), Railway Claims Tribunal and Pratibha Devendra Yadav, Chairman, Railway Recruitment Board also hoisted the National flag at their respective Railway offices in Chennai.

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated by the Income Tax Department, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry on Friday to pay homage to the sacrifices made by the leaders and warriors who fought for the Independence of India and because of that we and our future generations breathe the air of independence free from the yoke of foreign colonial oppression, an IT Dept release said.

The National Flag was hoisted by E.S. Nagendra Prasad, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, at Income Tax Office Campus, Chennai at 08.30 a.m.  Senior Retired Officers of the Income Tax Department, Senior Officers and Officials of the Income Tax fraternity graced the occasion.

In his address, E.S. Nagendra Prasad, IRS, Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax sadi, “Independence Day is not only a time to celebrate our nation’s freedom but also a moment to reflect on our responsibilities as citizens of this country, especially as public servants of this nation. Our department is a bridge between citizens and national development goals. It’s our duty to ensure that this bridge is transparent, efficient and rooted in integrity.  In the past year, we all have made significant strides, including compliance enhancing digital systems and simplifying processes for tax-payers. These effects reflect not just administrative progress but our collective dedication to fairness accountability and nation building.”

“Each one of us have to renew our commitment and core values of honesty, service and excellence. Let us try to make the system more people-friendly while maintaining the highest standards of compliance,” the Pr CCIT added..

E.S. Nagendra Prasad recollected the quote of young hero at Kargil War – Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, ParamVir Chakra that “Our Flag does not fly because of the wind moves it, but it flies with the breath of every soldier who died protecting it”, who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War.

The Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax also highlighted the quote of our Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi that ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others’ and let this be the guiding principle for officials and staff of the department.

As a part of the celebration, Music Program by the famous Playback singer Anuradha Sriram & her team was organized, which was mesmerizing and soul stirring.

IT Dept’s commitment to  environmental conservation

The Defence Forces celebrated the 79th Independence Day at the Victory War Memorial here on Friday with much patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.

On the occasion, all the Service Heads led by Lieutenant General V Sreehari, AVSM, SC, SM, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area of Indian Army; Rear Admiral Satish Shenai, NM, Flag Officer Commanding, TN and Puducherry Naval Area of Indian Navy; Air Commodore Tapan Sharma, Air Officer Commanding, Indian Air Force Station Tambaram and representative of Inspector General Indian Coast Guard and veterans laid wreaths at the Victory War Memorial.

For the first time, the Independence Day celebrations at the Victory War Memorial witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students from nearby schools and colleges and NCC Cadets who were eager to be part of the ceremony and celebrations.

Speaking to the students, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) emphasized the sacrifices made by soldiers and the need for children’s participation in Nation building. He also lauded the war heroes whose contribution ensured the nation’s safety and its march towards growth. He emphasized that children, who are the future of India, should lead the country towards peace, development and innovation. More than 50 students from Devi Academy, La Chatelaine School, Army Public School, The Muthialpet Higher Secondary School, Presidency College, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Dr MGR University took part in the celebrations.

Indian Oil Bhavan, Chennai celebrates Independence Day with traditional gaiety & cheer

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated at Indian Oil Bhavan with traditional gaiety and cheer here on Friday.

M Sudhakar, Executive Director (Regional Services), Southern Region hoisted the national flag in the presence of M Annadurai, Executive Director & State Head, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry and other senior officials. M Sudhakar, received the guard of honor given by the contingent of Territorial Army officers and Security Personnel from Indian Oil.

  • Certificates and prizes were distributed to the meritorious children of the employees in addition to Long Service Award for the employees
  • Distributions of prizes to winners of various competitions and felicitation of Security Staff make the vent more memorable
