Southern Railway ZRUCC meets in Chennai, focuses on passenger amenities and infra growth

Southern Railway held the 129th meeting of the Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) on December 22, 2025, in Chennai, bringing together key stakeholders to review performance and deliberate on priority issues concerning rail users.

The meeting was chaired by R.N. Singh, General Manager, Southern Railway, and attended by 28 ZRUCC members, including Members of Parliament Su Venkatesan and T. Sumathy (alias) Thamizhachchi Thangapandian, and MLA KSP (alias) S. Ramesh. Participants also included nominees from State Governments, Principal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, registered passenger associations, public sector undertakings, the Indian Foundation for the Differently Abled, the Consumer Protection Council, nominees of the Minister of Railways under the special interest category, and elected members from Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committees of all six divisions of Southern Railway. Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway were also present.

At the outset, a detailed PowerPoint presentation highlighted Southern Railway’s major achievements during the year, including visuals of recently upgraded Amrit Stations. The presentation outlined progress in infrastructure development, operational efficiency, and passenger-centric initiatives.

Comprehensive deliberations followed on key areas such as infrastructure projects, passenger amenities, train services, safety, and security. Members appreciated the recent initiatives undertaken by Southern Railway, particularly the station upgrades under the Amrit Stations Scheme. They also raised region-specific rail issues and sought timely intervention from the Railways.

Several constructive suggestions were offered for strengthening rail infrastructure, improving passenger amenities, introducing new train services, extending existing services, and enhancing overall facilities for the travelling public.

Addressing the committee, R.N. Singh stated that Southern Railway, as a passenger-friendly zone, is implementing effective measures to improve operational efficiency while simultaneously enhancing service quality. He assured members that all issues raised during the meeting would be carefully examined and that suitable and feasible action would be taken wherever possible.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ajay Kaushik, Deputy General Manager, Southern Railway.
