The Southern Railway Sports Association (SRSA) on Wednesday announced it will be hosting the prestigious 79th All India Railway Football Championship 2024-25 in Chennai from 22nd August to 31st August 2024. This significant sporting event is being held in Chennai after a gap of 42 years and will be held at the Ayanavaram Football Ground and ICF Grounds.

The championship will be inaugurated by Chief Guest Kaushal Kishore, Additional General Manager of Southern Railway, on Thursday at the Ayanavaram Football Ground in the presence of Guest of Honour Somesh Kumar, President of Southern Railway Sports Association & Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, Southern Railway; P.Balasundar, Honorary.Secretary of Southern Railway Sports Association & Chief Workshop Manager, Carriage & Wagon Workshops, Perambur; K.Saramma, Senior Sports Officer, Southern Railway; V.Devarajan, Asst Sports Officer, Southern Railway; P.Anitha, Officer on Special Duty/Sports, Southern Railway, Sportspersons, and Officers and staff of Southern Railway.
13 Zonal Railways, 364 Players
The Football championship will see participation from 364 football players and 20 officials representing 13 Zonal Railways and Production Units, including Northern Railway, Central Railway, South Eastern Railway, North Central Railway, South East Central Railway, Rail Coach Factory, East Coast Railway, Rail Wheel Factory, Railway Board, Integral Coach Factory, North Frontier Railway, Kolkata Metro Railway and the host, Southern Railway.
The matches will take place across two venues: ICF Ground and Ayanavaram Ground, Chennai, in a league stage format.
This championship holds special significance as the Indian Railways Football team will be selected based on the players’ performances during this event. The selected players will have the honour of representing Indian Railways in the forthcoming Santosh Trophy Football Championships.
