JUNAGADH, OCT 22
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Girnar Ropeway project in Junagadh via video conferencing on Saturday, October 24.
The 2.3 km ropeway, the longest ropeway to a temple, has been developed by Usha Breco Limited, the pioneer of passenger ropeways in the country. The Girnar ropeway will have the capacity to ferry 800 people in an hour, and 8,000 in a day.
While the Prime Minister is slated to perform the inauguration via video conferencing from New Delhi, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and other senior Gujarat government ministers and officials are likely to be in Girnar at the time of the inauguration.
Sources close to the company said that the testing of the ropeway has been completed, and commercial operations will begin very soon after the inauguration.
The Girnar ropeway is one of the most modern and sophisticated passenger ropeways in the country and includes nine towers. Twenty-five cabins, including a glass-floored cabin, each having the capacity to carry eight passengers at a time, are a part of the ropeway. For several hours at present, the ropeway will reduce the time to reach the Girnar top to below ten minutes. It is expected to not only make visiting Girnar more convenient for devotees, but also help in attracting more people to Girnar, and give a boost to tourism in Saurashtra.
Usha Breco has invested Rs 130 crore to set up this mega tourism project in Gujarat.
