The Southern Railway announced that unreserved coaches will be restored in Nilgiri Mountain Railway trains similar to pre-Covid pattern. One- Second class sitting and One- First Class coach will be made unreserved for the following trains in NMR route.
This will be done in a phased manner between May 1 and August 16, said a statement from the railways on Thursday. The move follows a directive by the Railway Board.
During the pandemic, regular trains were renamed as reserved specials, thereby converting unreserved coaches into second-class reserved ones. Although these trains have since been reverted to regular ones, the coaches continue to be reserved, except in high-demand trains.
The restoration will be done on May 1, 4, June 1, and August 16, respectively, said B Guganesan Chief Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway.
In Train No. 06140 Udagamandalam – Coonoor Passenger Special leaving Udagamandalam at 17.30 hrs 1- Second class sitting Coach (DL 1) and 1- First Class Coach (F2) will be made unreserved with effect from Sunday, May 1, 2022
In Train No. 06141 Coonoor – Udagamandalam Passenger Special leaving Coonoor at 07.45 hrs 1- Second class sitting Coach (DL 1) and 1- First Class Coach (F 2) will be made unreserved with effect from Wednesday. May 4, 2022
In Train No. 06142 Udagamandalam – Coonoor Passenger Special leaving Udagamandalam at 12.15 hrs 1- Second class sitting Coach (DL 1) and 1- First Class Coach (F 2) will be made unreserved with effect from Wednesday, May 4, 2022
In Train No. 06138 Coonoor – Udagamandalam Passenger Special leaving Coonoor at 16.00 hrs 1- Second class sitting Coach (DL 1) and 1- First Class Coach (F 2) will be made unreserved with effect from Wednesday, June 1, 2022
In Train No. 06139 Udagamandalam – Coonoor Passenger Special leaving Coonoor at 09.15 hrs 1- Second class sitting Coach (DL 1) and 1- First Class Coach (F 2) will be made unreserved with effect from Wednesday, June 1, 2022
In Train No. 06143 Coonoor – Udagamandalam Passenger Special leaving Udagamandalam at 12.35 hrs 1- Second class sitting Coach (DL 1) and 1- First Class Coach (F 2)will be made unreserved with effect from Wednesday, June 1, 2022
In Train No. 06136 Mettupalayam – Udagamandalam Passenger Special leaving Mettupalayam at 07.10 hrs 1- Second class sitting Coach (DL 1) and 1- First Class Coach (F 2) will be made unreserved with effect from 16th August 2022. This First Class coach will be available in Coonoor – Udagamandalam section only.
In Train No. 06137 Udagamandalam – Mettupalayam Passenger Special leaving Udagamandalam at 14.00 hrs 1- Second class sitting Coach (DL 1) and 1- First Class Coach (F 2) will be made unreserved with effect from 16th August 2022. This First Class coach will be available in Udagamandalam – Coonoor section only.
