In view of the prevailing COVID19 conditions, Railway has taken slew of measures to minimise the health risks to the passengers and to make their travel safe, says a release from Southern Railway.
As part of this measure, starting with regular sanitization of coaches, spraying of disinfectants in toilets at Stations and on trains at regular intervals, and insisting passengers on wearing of face masks and keeping adequate physical distancing, Railway is allowing only passengers with confirmed tickets to travel after ensuring their thermal screening at the entry of the stations.
As a measure of abundant precaution, issue of bed rolls to passengers have also been discontinued and curtains have been removed in all AC coaches, the temperature setting has been modified suitably with increased frequency of air change inside AC Coaches.
In addition to these measures, Railway also stopped serving cooked food in trains to minimise the health risks. In view of the above restrictions, passengers were advised to make their own arrangements for bedrolls and to bring their own food. However, to cater to the minimum needs of the passengers while travelling, mobile catering units operated by IRCTC were advised to sell only ‘ready to eat’ food items comprising of local cuisine varieties sourced from reputed brands, PAD items (such as packed snacks, potato chips, biscuits, etc.), coffee/tea, Rail Neer to the passengers on board, the release further said.
