Days after arresting 23 Tamil Nadu fishermen, 12 fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy for crossing the international maritime border on Monday.
The fishermen had ventured into the sea on a boat and were surrounded by the Sri Lankan navy while fishing near Paruthithurai. They were then arrested and their boat seized for crossing into the Sri Lankan side of the maritime border.
They were taken to the Kankesanthurai navy camp, in Jaffna.
The fishermen will be handed over to the Jaffna Fisheries Department authorities at Mayilitti Port after investigation.
