Stamps are the carriers of a nation’s civilization, culture, and heritage. That is why stamps are referred to as ‘little ambassadors,’ said Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav here on Tuesday.
He expressed these views while speaking as the chief guest in the programme organized on Philately Day on Tuesday, October 8 at Ahmedabad GPO, as part of National Postal Week celebrations. On this occasion, students from various schools visited the Philately Bureau to learn about stamps. They were given detailed information about the Philately Deposit Account, My Stamp, DeenDayalSparsh Scholarship Scheme, and the “DhaiAakhar” letter writing competition. Under the My Stamp initiative, people can now have their photos on stamps.
Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav stated, ”Under an innovative initiative, the Department of Posts is opening Philately Clubs in various schools to develop students’ interest in stamp collecting. This initiative would also benefit students’ education. During this financial year, 11 Philately Clubs have already been opened in the North Gujarat region.”
In addressing the students, Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav remarked that philately is known as the “King of Hobbies and Hobby of Kings,” allowing enthusiasts to collect stamps on various subjects. He also said that while the youth today favor social media, it is essential for children to connect with philately, as it significantly enhances their general knowledge.
Chief Postmaster of Ahmedabad GPO Govind Sharma said, “A Philately Deposit Account can be opened for just Rs. 200/- and receive stamps conveniently at home. Efforts are being made to encourage people to take advantage of this opportunity.”
