As part of Saksham 2022, an awareness campaign on fuel conservation – a Cyclothon was organized by the Chennai Petrochemicals Corporation (CPCL) with the support of the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas here on Sunday. It received an overwhelming response from the public, employees of the CPCL, their family members and even from tiny tots.
The Cyclothon was flagged off by CPCL Chairman and Managing Director Arvind Kumar, S Krishnan, Director (Operations), former Indian Basketball Team Captain P Anitha, Small screen celebrities Sujitha, Kavya and Kumaran from the CPCL Polytechnic Campus at Manali.

The Chennai campaign is one among the 200 events planned across the country and in cities, including Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Agra.
People from all walks of life from tiny tots, students, workers, professionals, activists, and housewives participated with enthusiasm. The 5-km rally started and ended at CPCL Polytechnic College.
Three-year-old Athwik drew the attention of many when he too joined the Cyclothon in his tiny cycle along with the elders at the venue.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the Cyclothon, CPCL Chairman Arvind Kumar said, ‘It is everyone’s duty to conserve energy. In today’s scenario of highly depleted non-renewable resources and the world shifting its focus to alternatives. It is a matter of great concern to conserve fuel. Saving fuel not only helps to contribute towards conserving our resources, but do each one’s bit in controlling pollution too, which again is a major threat to the lives.’
He further said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initiated steps to maximize the production of green energy to safeguard the planet from global warming.
Saksham Cycle Rally is India’s Premier Cyclothon and an initiative by Petroleum Conservation Research Association, a non-profit organization set up in 1978 under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India. Petroleum Conservation Research Association along with Oil Companies viz. IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL, MRPL, CPCL, and NRL takes a number of citizen-centric initiatives to promote awareness about the need and ways to conserve petroleum products.
