The mortal remains of former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh and ex-Governor of Tamil Nadu, K Rosaiah, was consigned to flames at his farm house in Kompally near here on Sunday. He passed away on Saturday due to age-related ailments.
People, including leaders from various political parties, turned up in large numbers to bid a tearful farewell to Rosaiah. His elder son KS Subba Rao lit the pyre in their farm land. As per directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, State funeral was given to the former Chief Minister as contingents from the special force fired three rounds in the air. Both Telangana and AP governments declared State mourning for three days from December 4 to 6.
- Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge came from New Delhi, representing All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi and paid tributes to the departed leader at Gandhi Bhavan.
Rosaiah’s former colleagues and fellow Congress leaders turned up in large numbers along with people from various walks of life. On behalf of the Andhra Pradesh government, Ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Vellapalli Srinivas Reddy, Perni Nani, Balineni Srinivas Reddy attended the funeral. Several Congress leaders including TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, former Minister V Geeta Reddy, former MP V Hanumantha Rao were also present. They recalled their long association and personal relations with Rosaiah.

Earlier, rich tributes were paid to Rosaiah by people from all walks of life at his residence on Dharamkaram Road in Ameerpet and at Gandhi Bhavan where the body was kept for people to pay their last respects to the departed leader. Former Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president S Sailajanath, actor and former Congress leader K Chiranjeevi and several others visited Rosaiah’s residence and paid floral tributes.
