AHMEDABAD, JULY 4

Sterling Hospital on Sunday honoured 150+ Cancer warriors and their family members to mark the conclusion of National Cancer Awareness Month and National Cancer Survivors Month. Cancer Warriors have to go through a long-drawn battle with the disease, and with the help of a robust support system which include doctors, family members, friends and most importantly internal will to combat they must be recognised. Sterling Hospitals, a multispecialty hospital in Gujarat is actively working to instil the power of hope and the increasing curability of cancer through their “Rise Again” campaign. The Hospital’s holistic approach has combined the best of science and spirituality.

Despite ongoing efforts, cancer continues to be shrouded in negativity, often viewed as a terminal illness. This June, the hospital hosted a special event for cancer survivors, aptly called “Cancer Warriors.” Those who successfully won the battle against cancer shared their stories challenging the negative stigma surrounding the disease. Their journey served as a powerful testament to the advancements in cancer treatment.

The campaign aims to spread optimism with survivors as the torchbearers of hope. It embodies a new beginning and the triumph of the human spirit after overcoming adversity.

The event went beyond simply acknowledging the survivors. It fostered a spirit of community and celebrated life.  Themed “Life is Beautiful,” the event highlighted the importance of living life to the fullest, even with a cancer diagnosis. This event emphasizes the importance of a different approach to healing, including elements like spirituality through their collaboration with Brahma Kumaris.

Commenting on the event Dr. Simmardeep S Gill, MD & CEO, Sterling Hospitals, said, “Cancer is a long-drawn battle for patients of various age groups, the treatment involves the team of doctors, patient’s internal fighting spirit and support of family members to overcome the challenges at various stages. With the RISE AGAIN campaign we are honoring patients’ fightback spirit and encourage them to live better ahead. I am sure this activity will spread the message of positivity within society for other patients who are fighting at the moment.”

Dr. Nitin Singhal, Director- Surgical Oncology, Sterling Hospitals, Ahmedabad addressing the occasion said that “Gujarat, though not among the top 10 states with the highest cancer cases, still faces a significant battle.  While the national survival rate has risen to 45-48%, with some states reaching 60%, Gujarat with a 50% survival rate has still work to do.  Early detection and access to advanced treatments are crucial factors influencing this disparity”. With a comprehensive care yet customized to the patients’ needs, we at Sterling Hospitals have been able to achieve over 65% five-year survival rate, due to better technology and individualised patient care.

He further added that we would further support patients through our new initiatives like specialized clinics for colostomy bag management and speech and swallowing rehabilitation, nutrition, pain & palliative care clinic addressing post-treatment challenges faced by patients, and musical therapy for the patient to address the psychological aspect of disease.

While excelling in providing treatments for cancer using traditional methods, Sterling Hospitals has also promptly adapted to new methods of treatment and surgery like Robotic Surgery, HIPEC Surgery, PIPAC, and HITOC. These newer treatment modalities leads to faster recovery, reduced patient stays, fewer complications, and offer a window of hope to certain patients with advanced including stage 4 disease.
